Pet Relocation Law UAE

Are you thinking to move to the UAE? If yes, you may also want to opt for pet relocation in UAE, and so it is must to be aware of the UAE rules and regulations. You must properly plan to arrange pet transport to the UAE. 

1. Microchip: Prior to travelling, ensure that your pet has a microchip (ISO 11784) for identification purposes. The microchip contains 15-digits that are non-encrypted.

2. Vaccinations for dogs and cats: If you are relocating a dog, make sure that it has had vaccinations for Hepatitis, canine Distemper, Leptospirosis, Parvovirus (DHLPP), Parainfluenza, and Bordetella. For cats, vaccinations against Feline Rhinotracheitis, Panleukopenia and Calicivirus is a must.

3. Rabies Antibody Titer Test: Also, you must ensure that the pet was implanted before the administration of rabies vaccine. It is also a must to get the rabies antibody titer test. The result must be 0.5 IU/ml or above.

4. Import permit and APHIS Form 7001: For pet relocation UAE, you would require both an import permit and an international health certificate with USDA endorsements within 10 days of travel.

5. Rabies Vaccination and Certificate: There should be original Rabies Certificate signed by a vet, and the vaccine must be at least 21 days old.

6. Internal and External Parasites Test: Make sure that your pet is tested for internal and external parasites. It must be administered within 10 days of pet relocation Dubai.

For successful and smooth pet relocation UAE, you would require copy of the pet owner’s passport and signed customs clearance form that you can take from your specialist.

Please note: the countries that are rabies-free are re exempted from the titer test controlled by the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water. Also, if you are planning to relocate reptiles, invertebrates, tropical fish, mammals, amphibians, please know that they are not subjected to vaccination against rabies but there are health should be administered.  At present, the import of birds is banned in the UAE.

For export of pets from UAE to any other country, the owners must get their pets examined at Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah International Airport and obtain an export permit for the pets. 

You must have the following documents:

  • Proof of Vaccination against rabies spanning from one year up to 30 days before the export
  • Crate that adheres to the international Air transport Association guiding principles
  • Proof that the pet has been micro-chipped
