About Fujairah


One of the seven emirates of the UAE, Fujairah is a unique Emirate city as it is located on the Gulf of Oman, outside the Strait of Hormuz. Fujairah boasts of a multitude of beaches that is spread across 90 kilometers along the Gulf of Oman, giving it an important strategic location.

Fujairah is a mountainous emirate, consisting of cement, stone crushing and mining industries. It also has a flourishing Free Trade Zone mimed on the Dubai Free Zone Authority model.

Fujairah Historical Background in Brief


Fujairah, dominated by the Sharqiyin tribe, is a business and commercial hub. Its ruling dynasty is Al Sharqi and the present ruler is Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammad al Sharqi. The emirate houses the oldest mosque in the United Arab Emirates built of mud and brick in 1446.

Activities to do in Fujairah


There is a lot of activities you can indulge in when in Fujairah. Some of them include:

Wadis and mountains: There are wadis and craggy mountains that offer the country’s amazing scenery and some of the best hiking spots. It is recommended that you go for hiking and mountain biking under 0065pert guidance or with an organised tour group.

Bull Fighting: In Fujairah, bull fighting is a traditional event that attracts crowds from far and near. It happens every Friday after 5 pm. The competitors are set for a one-minute challenge. The bull that butts the competitor for the longest time is considered as the winner.

Friday Market: It’s a weekly local market that attracts both tourists and residents. It is renowned for a wide range of consumer goods. It accommodates carpet shops, fruit and vegetable vendors, and even souvenir shops.

Wurayah Waterfalls: If you are a nature lover, this is a must go-to place. The view of the waterfalls that flows from the Hajjar Mountains set in Wadi Wurayah is breath-taking.  The Wadi Wurayah is home to about 100 species of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. The Wadi is designated as ‘RAMSAR Wetland of International Importance’.

Fujairah Sightseeing Places

You can find a number of sightseeing places in Fujairah, some of which include:

Al Bidya Mosque: It is one of the oldest mosques, made of mud and bricks that is plastered in layers of whitewash. The site was studied by Archaeological Center of Fujairah in association with University of Sydney, Australia.

Fujairah Fort: Considered as one of the historic treasures of Fujairah, the fort has been constructed using locally available materials such as gravel, stone, al sarooj (gypsum) amidst others. The fort was mainly used for defensive purpose.

Commuting in Fujairah


You can hire a private car or taxi to get around the Emirate of Fujairah, it is well-connected to other Emirates such as Sharjah and Dubai through Intercity buses. The Fujairah International Airport is also situated near the city.
